Arm Lift / Brachioplasty – Jacksonville Body Contouring
An Arm lift or brachioplasty involves removal of the excess skin and fat of the
upper arms in exchange for a scar. The tradeoff is usually acceptable to most
patients. An L-brachioplasty, which extends onto the chest, is most often used in
patients that have lost a significant amount of weight (i.e. after bariatric surgery).
The procedure can be combined with an upper body lift or breast lift to maximize
your aesthetic result. Depending on your body type and requirements, Dr. Desai
will discuss your options with you to help you decide which procedure best suits
your desires. To learn more about your options for arm rejuvenation, please
contact out Jacksonville body contouring surgery team at (904) 262-DESAI (3372).
Who is a candidate for an arm lift body contouring surgery?
Both men and women who desire improvement in the shape and contour of the
upper arm are candidates. In addition, patients that have lost a significant
amount of weight, such as post bariatric surgery, are excellent candidates.
How do I prepare for my arm lift body contouring surgery?
We ask patients to stop taking medications that may increase bleeding including
aspirin, Plavix, NSAIDS (i.e. ibuprofen, Advil, Alleve, etc), and herbal
supplements like vitamin E. Patients should be in good health and
ensure they have their blood pressure controlled.
In addition, patients who smoke should begin a smoking cessation program as
we ask patients to stop smoking three weeks prior to surgery, especially for those
undergoing a brachioplasty. The nicotine in tobacco products decreases the
blood flow to your skin and results in delayed healing and increased wound
complications.
In addition, nutritional supplementation is an important part of the healing
process before and after surgery. A full blood panel including nutritional
parameters will be obtained and we encourage all of our patients to begin protein
shakes or juices 3-4 weeks before and after surgery.
