A Thigh Lift can remove excess fat and skin from your thighs
eliminating sagging skin and creating a more aesthetic contour. It
is most commonly performed on patients that have lost a
significant amount of weight after bariatric surgery. The incision
can be in the groin crease or along the inside of your legs. The
procedure involves liposuction of the thighs and then excision of
the excess skin along the groin crease in order to elevate all the
loose skin. An incision along the inner thigh can be used to decrease
the total circumference of your thighs as well. A Thigh lift can be
combined with other body contouring procedures to maximize
your results.
At the Desai Center of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we
believe that patients, their desires, and anatomy are all unique.
Therefore, Dr. Desai evaluates each patient and creates a
customized surgical plan for all of his patients to meet their expectations. Dr. Desai

Who is a candidate for a thigh lift body contouring surgery?
Both men and women who desire improvement in the shape and contour of
their thighs are excellent candidates. Patients that are post bariatric surgery /
gastric bypass can have significant improvement from a thigh lift.
How do I prepare for my thigh lift body contouring surgery?
We ask patients to stop taking medications that may increase bleeding
including aspirin, Plavix, NSAIDS (i.e. ibuprofen, Advil, Alleve, etc), and herbal
supplements like vitamin E. Patients should be generally in good health and
ensure they have their blood pressure controlled.
In addition, patients who smoke should begin a smoking cessation program as
we ask patients to stop smoking three weeks prior to surgery, especially for
those undergoing a thigh lift. The nicotine in tobacco products decreases the
blood flow to your skin and results in delayed healing and increased wound
complications.
In addition, nutritional supplementation is an important part of the healing
process before and after surgery. A full blood panel including nutritional
parameters will be obtained and we encourage all of our patients to begin
protein shakes or juices 3-4 weeks before and after surgery.
Our Jacksonville cosmetic surgery team will help ensure a rapid recovery. As
you heal, it is important to keep well hydrated and nourished, as nutrition is an
important part of healing.
The procedure is under general anesthesia and patients are instructed to wear
compression garments for the first few weeks. Patients are admitted into the
hospital to ensure adequate hydration and pain control. Please call our Jacksonville cosmetic surgery team at (904) 262-DESAI (3372) to schedule a consultation and to
learn more about this procedure.
As the incision begins to heal (i.e. after 3 weeks), there are a number of things
you can use to help minimize the size and appearance of the scar. Massaging
the scar with firm finger pressure will help the scar blend in and decrease the
swelling. In addition, paper tape and silicone gel sheeting have both been
shown to help minimize the scars with time. Some commercially available
products such as Mederma or vitamin E may also have some benefit. Please
call our Jacksonville cosmetic surgery team at (904) 262-DESAI (3372) to schedule a
consultation and to learn more about this procedure.
