An Arm lift or brachioplasty involves removal of the excess skin and fat of the upper arms in exchange for a scar. The tradeoff is usually acceptable to most patients. There are a number of different ways to perform a brachioplasty, including the mini-brachioplasty, L-brachioplasty, and standard brachioplasty, and Dr. Desai has experience with all of them. The mini-brachioplasty is a minimally invasive approach where the scar hides in the armpit. However, for patients with lots of excess skin, a scar down the arm to the elbow will likely be required. An L-brachioplasty, which extends onto the chest, is most often used in patients that have lost a significant amount of weight (i.e. after bariatric surgery).
