Tumescent Liposuction – Jacksonville Plastic Surgery
Tumescent liposuction is the most common type of liposuction used in the world and is a component of all the other modalities. Fluid containing numbing medications (i.e. lidocaine) and medications to decrease bleeding are place around the unwanted fat. The liposuction cannulas are then used to remove this emulsified fat from your body leaving all the blood vessels and nerves intact. The key is to create an even contour, while removing as much fat as possible from certain areas of the body. With the tumescent technique, there is less pain and bleeding allowing this to be performed on an outpatient basis. Smart Lipo™ & Jacksonville Cosmetic Surgery
Smart Lipo™ or Laser assisted liposuction has had a tremendous amount of media coverage and growth in recent years. A large part of the growth comes from the marketing efforts of the companies that make these machines. What they fail to tell many patients in their advertising campaigns is that the higher cost has not been shown scientifically to produce any better results than tumescent liposuction. The laser is used to heat and break up the fat and the tumescent technique is used to then remove the fat from any unwanted areas. The addition of the laser has not been proven to be beneficial, but is also could be harmful and increase the risk of complications. By using heat from the laser, patient's have and can suffer skin burns and discomfort. Furthermore, the use of heat by Smart Lipo™ destroys the blood vessels and nerves that are spared with the standard tumescent liposuction technique.
